Most fashion ads try so hard to convey some fake overt plastic sexuality. Why don't more fashion ads feature nice scenes like this one, a smiling young man and his grandmother? I'm much more likely to pay too much for a suit based on this image than I am of some overhyped movie star with a sullen expression. Fashion should be fun - it's okay to smile. Really.

Normally we're pretty sick of clothing companies that spend more money on developing their heritage branding than on actual clothes making. And for many big brands the story is really fairly disgusting. (We're looking at you Chanel, and your founder and Nazi collaborator Coco). But in some cases the marketing is just so good that its good, free fun. Take the label Axel Arigato. Some pretty cool shoes, sure, but a really fun video about their background.

What is this? A suit? Not really. But it does have pants and a jacket. Mostly though, we dig the cool belt. Maybe this chick does karate? Maybe not. But we like the look. Normally a jacket and pants on women we think Hillary Clinton, and not in a good way. Or Washington no-nonsense bureaucrat. But this model looks like she could be the evil dame from a James Bond flick. Or maybe she mixes a mean martini.

How things have changed in the last 1700 years, right? Or not? This jade necklace would look just as cool in the 21st century as in the 3rd. And that's kind of amazing if you think about it.

Stauer is a catalog and online merchant for watches, jewelry, and other goods. Their stuff is cheap, the watch shown here is $80. Of course it's cheap, because they're selling in huge volumes, so nothing is going to be unique, if that bothers you. And perhaps it should, because the whole point of wearing jewelry, or watches for that matter, is a piece of personal decoration that distinguishes you in some way from everyone else. I mean, you can get the time from your phone, right? Timex watches are cheap and proud of it. Everything by Stauer is cheap but pretending to be expensive, and I think that's what really bothers us.

On the other hand, Stauer stuff is undeniably well priced. We own one of their watches, and it came as advertised. Their items look nice, but they are just copying the designs of others. If you want cheap and nice looking, shop at Stauer. If you want something off the beaten path, J Peterman is your catalog of choice.

We have no intention of spending $500 for sunglasses, especially non-prescription ones, given that we can get very nice ones for much less from Warby Parker. But if you, superstar, are in the market for cool shades and can drop $500, then check these out. Cause they're nice.

Designers take note! This kind of way of keeping a dress together is not only beautiful, but would work again now - and look spectacular.

If you're a man shopping for underwear you've probably found its not easy to find without the designer's name boldly emblazoned on the band. Why is this? Do designers, who tend to be megalomaniacs, really believe we want to see their name in big letters as we put on our underwear? Let's be clear on this - we don't. And, in fact, we refuse to buy any such as these.
