Gone with the Wind turned out to be a giant hit in 1939, but along the way it almost destroyed the fortunes of its producer, David O. Selznick. Jaws was initially deemed a career ender for its young director, Steven Spielberg, and when Paramount's marketing men first viewed The Godfatather in 1972, they forecast a crashing failure.
