"Only 6 percent of the Inc. founders I interviewed claimed to have started with unique products or services. Nearly 60% said that identical or very close substitutes were available. Fewer than 5% reported filing for a patent. According to Inc.s own surveys, only only 12% of the founders attributed the success of their copanies to "an unusual or extraordinary idea." 88% reported that their success was mainly due to "the exceptional execution of an ordinary idea."
