“For help with the cover of its sixth album, Why Make Sense? (out May 19), the British electronic band Hot Chip turned to visual artist Nick Relph. Enlisting the same technology used to stamp addresses on mass mailers, Relph designed several overlapping striped patterns in myriad colors and forms. The result: over a hundred thousand variations. “I thought it might be interesting to have each cover be different—something unique, though that’s a big word,” says Relph”
