Not feeling positive? Take a walk

In restricted times like these, walking has some big advantages:

  • You get out of the house
  • Get some healthy exercise
  • A chance to think and reflect, and clear your head
  • Enjoy the beauty of nature and springtime.

Many of history’s great thinkers and innovators have been big on regular walks; Steve Jobs often took a walk when he wanted to have an important business discussion. And back in the days before gyms, many people used a daily walk as their primary form of exercise. The great novelist Charles Dickens would walk for hours through London observing life and getting ideas for his books. Charles Darwin took 3 walks a day.

So walk, talk, think, and look.

Walk with your family, walk with your dog, walk alone. Just walk.

(And be thankful you can still take a walk. India’s 1.3 billion people are literally not allowed to leave their houses, except for shopping trips early in the morning. How and why this sort of mass house arrest is allowed in democracies is another matter).
