It would appear that the idea of starting a silk industry had very little to recommend it to a man past his 40th birthday who had never worked in the textile business and knew nothing whatever of its production end, who did not speak the language of the country, and whose knowledge of marketing a product like silk seemed only marginally greater than that of the discouraged weavers.
