For years, decades actually, fashion has followed its own schedule, more for the industry’s convenience than for those who actually buy clothes. Fashion shows have featured clothing that is not actually for sale for about 6 months, allowing magazines to feature the new clothing before it comes out, and retailers to order and stock the merchandise. But the rise of social media and knock-offs means that many of those looks are now dated by the time they actually hit the stores. So fashion shows are increasingly featuring clothes that can be ordered right away, a sea change in the industry.
