New York magazine, generally more known as prophets of doom than as optimists, just ran a story taking the point of view that climate change is actually being effectively addressed. For the first time in history, as far as we know, the worldwide economy got bigger in 2014 without resulting in an overall increase in carbon emissions. This is due to a number of factors including decreased use of coal, decreased prices for alternative energy, and, most important of all, China making surprisingly fast and effective efforts to combat their still terrible air pollution.
