The Life And Work Of Vincent Van Gogh

This newsletter is mainly about directing you to content that will help inspire you to be your best self, and to help you live sanely in an often insane world. One great example is the slideshow based on Don McLean’s hit song “Vincent”, combined with beautiful paintings by Vincent Van Gogh.

Van Gogh led a famously troubled life. He suffered from anxiety, perhaps insanity, and committed suicide at age 37. As a young man he tried but failed to become a missionary. His marriage proposal was rejected due to his inability to support a family. He lived with an alcoholic prostitute who later committed suicide. Van Gogh spent several weeks in the hospital suffering from a venereal disease. His next lover attempted to commit suicide but was saved by Van Gogh.

For periods of time he lived on bread, coffee, and tobacco. In 1888 he cut off part of his left ear. During his life, he created over 2,000 works of art, of which one sold. While he died in poverty and obscurity, his work now is famous throughout the world. In 1990 one of his paintings sold for $82.5 million.

On our site we’ve added a video created by others which beautifully combines the visuals of Van Gogh’s paintings with the song by Don McLean. With so much senseless “humor” and flotsam and jetsam floating around the Internet, it’s a real pleasure to spend a few minutes with this video – we’ll guarantee you’ll be feeling saner by the end.
