The co-founder and CEO of Costco pays his people way more than he has to, and way more than his rivals pay theirs. Stockholders yelp that their dividends could and should be higher. Why does he do it? Two reasons: 1)It's the right thing to do and 2)It creates loyalty and long tenures, which is good business. A man remembers that the morally right and the fiscally bright are not at odds.
