By focusing on process – bringing together the resources, meeting with people, learning from them, and seeing how their ideas improve her own – even if she never reaches her goal she has succeeded. Her satisfaction comes from the doing, a fulfillment not experienced by people who focus only on the winning or losing. Ignoring or undervaluing the process and lusting after victory makes it very hard to feel that your time has been well spent if you lose; focusing only on the goal makes it very hard to retrench and regroup and be resilient if you fail.
