Life is no fairer for scientists than for anyone else. Physicist Richard Feynman had a strong sense of how lucky he was to have come along when he did. 'It is like the discovery of America- you only discover it once' he wrote. 'The age in which we live is the age in which we are discovering the fundamental laws of nature, and that day will never come again.'
