When Keynes made his prediction in 1931, he wasn't saying life would be perfect after the economic problem was solved, only that 'the economic problem is not...the permanent problem of the human race.' That problem is something else entirely: finding and spreading not material abundance but spiritual fulfillment. Much, much tougher.
