MEDIA ORGY!

Give the sniper what he wants! He wants media attention, and the media is only too happy to comply,
giving every word of this deranged publicity hound more attention than was ever devoted to the world’s greatest minds. Over 1,000 federal agents are on the case and, it seems, even more reporters. He’s the star of every news program.

We live in the Washington area, but are we worried about the sniper? Hell no! We’re worried about being killed by a careless or drunk driver:

Total number of people killed by the sniper thus far: 10, about one every 2-3 days in October.
Amount of news coverage: Infinite

Total number of projected traffic fatalities this year: About 42,000, or 115 per DAY!
Recent stories detailing the dangers of driving: None

(Actual deaths in 2001 were 41,730, and in 2000, 41,821. About half of the driving deaths each year are related to alcohol abuse.)

The media attention has little to do with rational safety concerns, and everything to do with entertainment – it’s virtually impossible to turn on the TV without hearing about the newest TV reality show, THE SNIPER; in this episode the police give a coded message to the sniper. And you’ll never miss an episode, because THE SNIPER is carried by all the news channels, 24 hours a day. But hey, if you really find death and destruction titillating, maybe you should check out this picture of a young woman, horribly disfigured after she was hit by a drunk driver:

Meanwhile, the media is focusing so much attention on the headline act, that it can’t even get the other bloody news right. Terrorists have struck in Moscow, taking over a theater, and everyone inside it. But how many people are inside? BBC says “over 100”. NBC says 700-1,000. But who cares, the next press conference about the sniper is in five minutes!

Get a clue America! If you pay attention to good people, maybe you’ll have more of them. And we can absolutely guarantee you that if you pay endless amounts of attention to the actions of very evil people, you’ll have more senseless violence.

  1. I agree with you. Let’s not make this sniper incident so exciting that every kid in America will want to be one too!! Monkey see, monkey do..

  2. How about comparing the probability of someone who lives in DC, Montgomery County, or Northern VA being killed by the sniper versus being killed driving. Bet that the probability is higher for being killed by the sniper – 10 deaths in 2 weeks, I surely don’t hear about that many driving fatalities on the news.

  3. I thnk this sniper issue once again is just a media frenzie. Get a clue people this guy is reacting to everything your reporting and laughing as he watches the police and people squirm. This is obviously a sick person so treat him like one. Stop playing the games. Now he has stopped hunting season. Fine then let’s hunt him instead. Let the hunter’s have a crack at it. The media needs to learn what to report and what not to report before they lead him right to us all.

My biggest problem with the “Sniper” coverage is that they are giving him good ideas!!! I saw one story about how he MAY be using a voice disguiser and then they showed you where they are sold and how easy to use! Also they state that hes not killing on the weekends and that may be a clue so the following weekend he caps someone. STOP feeding him intel and ideas.

  4. Yes, damn right, too much coverage is exactly what this maniac wants! He is somewhere every 10 minutes getting his jollies off when they go through the lists of the dead and injured. To much uninvestigated, inaccurate press is what is wrong with this country. Most folks just sit back and suck it up, instead of questioning it. Look at how long it has taken this so called police department to catch this guy. Its absurd. We need to have more groups like the Guardian Angels to help with cases like this. Its time for all of us to stand up, and stop this nonsense. In more than just the press, the government, too!!!! Entirely too much federal involvement in money making company’s and not enough government, where it belongs. Protecting us at our borders, and watching what kind of cargo is entering and leaving the country. I don’t buy the drug cartel being related to terrorism, either. Seems like there are key money figures in America. Its time to sniff them out and let justice ring!!!WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!

  5. You damn straight. We the people don’t need to know everything. Why the media believes we do is beyond me. The bodies that are investigating this more than likely would like to keep this info to themselves but it just has to be broadcast all over. And the media get so indignant when they discover something new that wasn’t given to them. It’s then classified as a coverup. Once in a while some of these so called ‘news reporters’ should be brought up on charges and taken to court. Impeding an Investigation.

  6. You are so right. The sad reality is that bad news sells and there are many dumbasses out there who want to hear it. I also agree that we do not need to know every little aspect of the case because as we listen so does the sniper and it could build on his ego and lead to more crimes.

  7. I was trained in college in the art of television production. After seeing what is on television, I’m embarrassed to have been so close to the industry. I became a county jail guard.

  8. Imagine if:
Half the Sniper air time had been used on
    Danger of smoking
    Drunk driving stats
    Use of seat belts
    Home smoke detectors.
Half the cops on the case had been after drunk drivers.
The roadblocks had been for sobriety tests.
Half the reward money were used to buy smoke/CO detectors/batteries for low income families.

  9. Padraic – You’re proving that you’re one of the sheeple by saying “I surely don’t hear about that many driving fatalities on the news.” Well, wake up. They happen even if the biased, annoyingly dramatic media doesn’t report them.

The media has made me sick with all of their coverage of this. They have news conferences every few hours just to answer a few simple questions and then have idiot reporters answer questions that the police won’t answer anyway for a half hour. They don’t hold in details that they should. The first few times, they were out at the roadblocks with their cameras! Hello? That’s like saying “Hey Mr. Sniper, here’s where the roadblocks are so don’t come here!” Then this last time when they were asked to withhold the locations, the media sucked their own di–s every five seconds for being such good people as to comply with the cops (even as they had copters flying over the spot – but hey, they didn’t SAY where the blocks were).

I think reporters are some of the lowest life forms on earth. And that’s saying something when they’ve got lawyers to compete with. Thanks for letting me vent, OUTRAGE!

  10. If we need to start looking atall the good stuff that people are doing and not dwell on the stupid little bull S**T. If the sinper is reading this why do you leve the east coast alone at go terriorize thewest coast!!!!!

  11. Stop your whining!
    Shut up!
If you don’t like the news change the channel, or turn off the tv or radio and take up a nice soothing hobby.
Take a walk through the forest, read a book while your sitting on the head.
Relax, chill, eat some ice cream. Just leave the news alone. Someday the press may over-cover a news item extremely important to you and you’ll be happy they were there poking, proding and pushing to get Americans the truth.
Listening to occasional over-coverage is worth it when it’s only facts that come out when it’s all over.

  12. Ok, very good opinions, ideas and thoughts. But guess what? we are all talking about the sniper. So we’ve just joined the media craze too!!!!!!!! Isn’t that nice. We’re all addicted to the same S**t just a different day. Have a nice day and thanks for the vent!

  13. The press does belong in Prison especially CNN.
You sheeple out there who really think the media is presenting the truth without
our liberal NWO Agenda biased government telling them what to say need to wake up and smell something. CNN claims to have experts talking about guns who know very little if anything about guns.
Did we here ” Posse Commatatus” when the black booted thugs with our military were murdering scores of children at WACO?
They only use this term when they do not plan on breaking the law. The public is being mislead about most of the ” Sniper ” coverage. Only the same ignorant people who voted for Clinton would swallow this propaganda.
One more thing, if you can not determine that 80% of the angle the media presents is anti gun and anti Constitution then nevermind! The govt wants to take up all the guns, especially the ones that will protect ” We the people” from ” Enemies of the Constitution foreign and domestic”

It is called the ” Heglian principle” This is when a problem is created ” sniper” the a solution is offered just when the weak people would vote for anything to give them temporary security. ( new gun legislation)The problem is that it is orchestrated and gets the people one step closer to where the Govt wants us, Without the basic rights provided by the Constitution.

  14. The Montgomery County PD and the task force deserve praise for solving this crime so quickly in today’s society. Look at how long the Capano and Einhorn cases took to resolve! The officials knew the media was covering this story 24/7 and used the media’s resources as another tool. While the public and the suspects thought the police were searching for white cargo vans and box trucks, they were really seeking the blue Caprice that they knew about from day one. These sick puppies thought that the police were totally clueless and openly drove their car around. The media’s coverage of the white vehicles drew these loonies out of hiding right into the waiting arms of the law. The use of the media worked so well that the guys were actually caught SLEEPING. The task force avoided a potential standoff by catching these wack jobs when they were vulnerable, just as they had attacked their victims when vulnerable. In today’s society, the authorities must expect the “media orgy” and use it to the public’s advantage as was done in this case.

As for roadway fatalities, my small community unfortunately experiences several per week. What happened to the coverage of the mom who allowed her children and their friends to consume alcohol? She only contributed to the corruption and death of minors! The media should use its clout to encourage parents to become more proactive in their childrens lives.
