JUDGE ROBS BANK!

Image of today's outrage

While many Americans refer to lawyers as thieves, they usually don’t mean the kind of thief who actually puts a stocking mask over his head and knocks over a bank.

But John White, former president of the Kansas Trial Lawyers Association, tried to do just that.

Attorney White has had an interesting career. In 1984, after serving as a probate and district court judge, he opened a personal injury practice. Although his ambulance-chasing law practice was lucrative, it apparently was not lucrative enough. White embezzled hundreds of thousands of dollars from his clients.

White has also pleaded guilty to income tax evasion. No surprise there, as it’s difficult to report income that is derived from embezzling.

On April 3 of this year, White had apparently tired of his more sophisticated methods of stealing, and decided to do it the old-fashioned way. Driving a borrowed sports car with a panty-hose mask pulled over his face, White drove to Bank Midwest and told the teller that he had a bomb. In fact, his “bomb” was a garden sprayer, and White was arrested within a minute of the attempt.

Yesterday, White pleaded guilty to defrauding his clients, income tax evasion, and attempted bank robbery. But here at The Outrage, we hope the judge will be lenient. After all, White seems to be improving his character: bank robbery is so much more honest and straight-forward than the practice of personal injury law.
