Andy Grove

  •
  • Andris Grof was born in Budapest in 1936, survived both the Nazis and the Soviet crackdown on the 1956 Hungarian revolution. His escape to Austria and then to the United States where he became Andy Grove, was the subject of an engaging memoir, Swimming Across, in which he marvels that someone who a few years before was a refugee fleeing across plowed fields could become Time magazine’s Man of the Year: ‘I’ve continued to be amazed that as I progressed through school and my career, no one has ever resented my success on account of my being an immigrant.’

Quotes

He can't slow down and can't understand why anyone would want to. In his view, there's always someone out there who will pounce if you begin to slack. 'You know, I get criticized that I don't celebrate our successes, even today. My guys say I don't celebrate enough. Maybe it's my dad's business, but you know, its like a shark. You stop, you die. Right? You die.'
