Money

Charity – Giving It

Virtue means doing the right thing, in relation to the right person, at the right time, to the right extent, in the right manner, and for the right purpose. Thus, to give money away is quite a simple task, but for the act to be virtuous, the donor must give to the right person, for the right purpose, in the right amount, in the right manner, and at the right time. It’s amazing that men have become so completely feminized that men’s magazines like GQ are much more likely to contain full page solicitations for breast cancer research than for something that actually effects men – like prostate cancer. Whereas the pink ribbons for breast cancer research are everywhere, its hard to find anyone, at least in the mainstream media, who seems to care about prostate cancer research, which kills far more people than breast cancer. We know you’ve been browbeaten, and passed your sensitivity training course with flying colors – good boy, have another pink cookie, but don’t get your hands dirty. We know that you care about blacks in Africa, about children in Asia, and about women everywhere. But its okay to care about men in America – we also get sick and die. Charity starts at home, and before you worry about saving the world, maybe you should focus on your own town, problems that you really know something about, or diseases you might actually get.

Blessed are those who can give without remembering and take without forgetting.
