The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is located in Colorado Springs. We took a weekend trip over there visit a friend, see the Focus on the Family headquarters, and do a little geocaching. We were able to get a discount on a great hotel due to being out of season, and our hotel room even came with tickets to the Zoo, so it was a great way to fill in an afternoon.
The first big display inside the door was the Giraffes and there was also a webcam geocache there, so we were able to log a cache with the giraffes. That was back in the time before smartphones and portable computers were mainstream (in fact, I think this was the year that iPad was first released!). I had to call a friend to have them take a copy of the webcam from their home computer and email me. We took the time to feed the giraffes, and behold, I totally confirmed they have a big, black tongue.
Moving along, the boars were pretty ‘boaring’! We saw the monkeys, tried to see the wolves but they were hiding. A peacock was merely walking around, and we did find that the gorillas were pretty rude.
Overall, our trip was good. If you have an afternoon to kill in Colorado Springs, the zoo is a great place to visit.
